Nunthorpe Stakes Preview and Odds

I saw something mentioned in an article this week that 2yo’s have a good recent record in this race. Certainly before Kingsgaite Native won this a couple of years ago, that would not have been a statement we would have seen published. That said, i did buck the trend and have the winner there, if I remember rightly, it was my nap of the day too, and i remember listening to the race on the radio, sat under a tree in the shade near Moreton-in-the-Marsh. Funny what you remember sometimes!

Kingsgaite Native

Anyway, we have just one 2yo in attendance for the 2011 renewal, and he comes in the form of Molecomb stakes winner at Glorious Goodwood, REQUINTO. He struck the front early on, and there he stayed never looking like getting caught and showing maturity beyond his age.

Talking of age, the weight for age allowance means he gets in here, carrying just 8.01, fully 24lbs lower than the majority of his rivals, that’s a Stone and 10lbs!!! Despite his age, that has to contribute a massive advantage over his elders and simply cannot be ignored. Hoof It was special in the Stewards Cup over 6f, but I am sure is just as effective over 5, and he completed a terrific weight carrying performance in taking that title.

This will be Kingsgaite Natives fourth run in the race but at 6, I just don’t see him making it a second victory. He finished runner up in the Molecombe before coming here to win at 2, Requinto has already gone one better and is the pick.
