Football: Champions League 2012/13 Groups A-D 2nd Round of Group Stage

Wednesday night Champions League action from groups A-D Tuesday provided a third consecutive Champions League night profit of 2.61pts on the night to add the the 8.19 already gained from week 1. The Bank stands at 10.80pts to the good going into Wednesdays games from Groups A to D   Champions League GROUP A Dynamo Kiev v Dinamo Zagreb Both of these sides lost their opening games and will need to be picking up points here if wanting to progress further from the group. Dynamo Kiev may well be the home side here but went down very tamely in France in their last UCL game by a 4-1 scoreline, the very same as the very next game they played in the Cup versus Shaktar Donetsk. They have now lost 3-1 AND 4-1 to Donetsk just this month. They meet a Zagreb side that have at least won their last two games...

Football: Champions League 2012/13 Groups E-H 2nd Round of Group Stage

Tuesday night Champions League action from groups E-H In the second round of Champions League group matches, it’s group E-H that go first on Tuesday night. There may have been a few perceived shocks in the first round of games for some. CFR Cluj would have been considered one of them winning in Portgual, but followers of this blog would have been collecting on the night as we tipped them up to do just what they did. BATE battered Lille at home, and before Lionel Messi worked his magic for Barcelona, there could have been the biggest shock of the first round with Spartak Moscow nearly getting all three points in Camp Nou. The second round may be approached with more caution. As usual I shall cast my eye over the games and see what opportunities I feel are worth getting involved with. The bank stand at 8.19pts to the good, mainly thanks...

Football: Champions League Groups E-D Barcelona, Chelsea & Man Utd Begin Their Campaign

Wednesday night Champions League action from groups E-H A mixed bag of results from Groups A-D last night, we now look at the completion of the first round of matches as groups D-E play their first games Champions League GROUP E Chelsea v Juventus What a mouth watering first game at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea. Both sides top their respective domestic tables after at this early stage of the season, both looking solid enough at this stage. Noted though, Chelsea’s poor display v Athletico Madrid in the Super Cup going down 1-4 here a couple of weeks ago. Last season, en route to winning this competition, Chelsea were victorious in each of their home games and will be looking to replicate that form this time around. Juventus have little recent Champions League experience which could count against them, but it should be noted that they have not been beaten on the road...

Football: Champions League Groups A-D Real Madrid can Beat Manchester City in round 1

Tuesday 18th September sees the first round of Champions League matches from Group A-D I took a hugely statistical route the first round of matches last season and caught a bit of a cold in doing so. That strategy is shelved this time round so no blind betting Champions League GROUP A Dinamo Zagreb v Porto Zagreb offered nothing in this competition last season and they once again look like they will be the whipping boys of Group A. They have been doing well domestically but will not have had to face anything like to opposition of Porto up till now. Home advantage may count for something in this game. Porto do not have the strongest away form in this competition as losses to Zenit and more surprisingly APOEL last season with testify. Evens for the Porto win however, are good enough to get involved. Zagreb will probably be happy enough...

Frankel – The Best Ever? Could Brigadier Gerard have taken him on?

Is Frankel the best ever Flat Race Horse the World has ever seen, or are we caught up in the moment? I can be very certain of my answer. Whilst I am not the springiest of chickens, I can honestly say I have never seen a race horse of this calibre; so comfortably able to dispose of top class quality opposition with such aplomb, in my lifetime. I would be quite surprised if I were to witness something of this greatness ever again. Indeed, I would be truly blessed. Perhaps others may be considered better, from “before my time”, I’m sure there are some staunch fans of Brigidier Gerard, Sea Bird, Mill Reef, or more recently Dubai Millenium. Shergar would make many peoples top 10 Just over the past few years we have had the likes of Sea The Stars and  Harbinger but would either of those two, or...

Football: English Premier League Game Week 2 Preview – Liverpool v Man City Top of the Bill

Liverpool play host to Man City on Sunday whilst  5.30pm Kick off on Saturday Features Chelsea V Newcastle Chelsea, coming into the weekend sit atop the table with 6 points, and may very well remain there after Saturdays action, which would make things interesting at Stamford Bridge 5.30. Wednesday night saw them take all three points in a topsy-turvy game at home, when taking the lead only to fall 1-2 behind to newly promoted Reading. But in a carbon copy of Manchester City’s game against, again, Newly promoted Southampton last week, the home side found a brace of goals, and in fact a fourth to run out comfortable 4-2 winners on the night, and with 5 assists already this season, a wonder-buy in Eden Hazard. Let’s preview each of the top flight games: Swansea City v West Ham United Swansea, if taking all three points in their first home...
