The Npower Championship season may only be but a few days old but this is the time of year when the games come thick and fast. And so we move on to the second game for most clubs in the second tier of English Football. Nothing to read into the first weekend of matches; it’s surely too early, but of note was but a combined single point for the three clubs relegated from last seasons Premier League. All three had away fixtures to be fair as Blackburn were held to a draw at Ipswich thanks to a late own goal, whilst Bolton were beaten by a goal in each half with no return in their opening derby match at Burnley and Wolves suffered a 1-0 defeat at Elland Road versus Leeds United. Blackburn have been tipped by many as relegation candidates this term and have done their best thus far to prove those pundits right. Steve Keane has done nothing in the transfer market for a squad that needed obvious investment if relegation would not be a threat this year. Losses to Wolves and Aston Villa so far leave them pointless and already looking vulnerable. Perhaps there may be light at the end of the tunnel as Everton step forward as next opponents on Saturday. The Toffeemen always start the season badly and punters would rarely be out of pocket backing against them through the first ten games, and this could be a breath of fresh air for Blackburn.
