Football: League One Midweek Previews – MK Dons and Doncaster Rovers

League One midweek action could include wins for Doncaster and MK Dons Again a quick eye on the three teams relegated from the Npower Championship will demonstrate just one win for those sides in the opening weekends games. That went the way of Doncaster who also managed the feat on the road, travelling to Wallsall and completing a comfortable 0-3 reverse. They face Bury who couldn’t score in a 0-0 draw on Saturday at home to Brentford. First bet of the season in League one then: Doncaster HOME WIN at 1.85. The two sides have not met since 2004 in the league when Doncaster run out 3-1 winners, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar scoreline on Tuesday night. Bournemouth managed to save a point at Fratton Park versus Portsmouth on Saturday, and they face another tough task on Tuesday with Milton Keynes Dons visiting Dean Court, or...

Football: Npower Championship Midweek – Blackpool v Leeds Utd

The Npower Championship season may only be but a few days old but this is the time of year when the games come thick and fast. And so we move on to the second game for most clubs in the second tier of English Football. Nothing to read into the first weekend of matches; it’s surely too early, but of note was but a combined single point for the three clubs relegated from last seasons Premier League. All three had away fixtures to be fair as Blackburn were held to a draw at Ipswich thanks to a late own goal, whilst Bolton were beaten by a goal in each half with no return in their opening derby match at Burnley and Wolves suffered a 1-0 defeat at Elland Road versus Leeds United. Leeds are one of nine sides in the division who recorded wins in their opening game and...

Football: Champions League Final – Bayern Munich v Chelsea

Bayern Munich can lift the trophy on home soil. Bayern can prove to organised and strong for Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League final when the two teams meet in the Allianz Stadium in Munich on Saturday night. Home advantage will be a huge advantage for the Germans; a look at the stats backs up the view. Whilst my view is that Bayern will ultimately lift the trophy on Saturday, most probably by winning withing the 90 minutes, they could also finish off Chelsea in extra time or even if the match emulates Bayerns Semi final against Real Madrid and goes to penalties. English teams have one only one of the last eight European finals they have contested, and Chelsea have played thier own part in that Statistic in recent years. Expect some celebration from the Chelsea fans though as I do expect them to get on the score...

Npower Championship Betting Odds – Previews and Tips

Another weekend in the Npower Championship with Southampton and Derby County leading the way Middlesbrough and West Ham United hot on their heels. The top of the table may still look a little topsy-turvy in some minds, but this weekend the Npower Championship will be some five matches in and some positions beginning to be established already. Derby County look likely to retain their 100% record and make it five wins from five against an out of sorts Burnley side, if they do, only Southampton can deny Nigel Clough’s side a place on top of the division by winning at Leicester City. If the Saints were to do just that, they will have surely arrived as Championship contenders. Brighton & Hove Albion are making hay already in this division, they too, look likely to take three points on Saturday afternoon as Peterborough come to the AMEX. Fresh from a...

UEFA Champions League Draw, Analysis, Betting Odds & Tips – Group E

Here I take a look at the Champions League Draw and give some early prediction for the two sides from each group to progress. Each group will also have its own odds box to show the best odds available for each. Group E: Chelsea, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk This looks to be the most fascinating group this year. At first glance, ultra competitive, on second look, pretty average. Chelsea, unconvincing in the Premier League last season, Valencia better in La Liga but woefully short of whats required in this competition. Bayer Leverkusen are strong at home, whilst have been very poor in Europe on the road, Liverpool beat them 3-1 twice to see them out of the comp last year. I like Genk, i like the atmosphere at their ground for midweek evening games. Unfortunately, atmosphere doesn’t win games, and Genk, although a solid enough side who don’t get...

Straightforward Carling Cup on Wednesday for Premier League Sides

Straightforward Carling Cup on Wednesday for Premier League Sides

After the Topsy Turvy first round, and the debacle that was Tuesday night, this evenings games in the Carling Cup look like they should be fairly straightforward Four premier League sides are in 2nd Round action as Blackburn Rovers and Everton play at home and take on the two Sheffield sides, Wednesday and United respectively. Bolton Wanderers have another home tie against Macclesfield, whilst Liverpool travel all the way down the M5 to play Exeter in the game that could throw up the shocker. Completing the line up, Peterborough United will play at home versus Middlesbrough, in what looks like the tie of the night. But rarely do things work out like they appear they will. Finally there are two first Round matches to be completed this evening too. West Ham United host Aldershot whilst there is a derby between Bristol City and Swindon Town. The former should be...

Manchester United a huge 11/8 to be leading both halves against Spurs

Manchester United a huge 11/8 to be leading both halves against Spurs

Spurs travel north to Manchester and will look to spoil things for Alex Ferguson and his Manchester United side who will themselves be looking to keep early pace with “Noisy Neighbours” Manchester City who went to Bolton on Sunday and won 2-3. If previous trips to Old Trafford are anything to go by, then things do not bode well for Harry Redknapps side. They have not managed a win here in 48 matches, stretching back to 1989! If you want to find another and it’s just as long a journey back to 1976! In fact going back to 1909,I find 53 wins for the Reds in 74 games. Just 9 wins for Spurs. Talk about having the odds stacked against you. All of a sudden the 4/6 home win looks good value! To grab a little extra, how about the HT/FT market. Of the 19 home games United played...

West Ham United v Leeds United – A walk in the Upton Park for WHU

August 21, 2011
By

Simon Grayson brings his Leeds United side to upton park this Sunday with the cry, “We can beat anyone!” Whilst i can agree with that, I will also add the waiver, “…………………..if you score 4 or more goals”. For Leeds issue, not for now but for all of last season as well, was defence. Or the lack of it. Always prone to conceding a hatful, Leeds will always be vulnerable as has already been highllighted when they travelled to St Marys to face Southampton on day 1. West Ham have played oly once at Upton park so far, losing in out in a game with a single goal to Cardiff City. They showed they are fairly dangerous in front of goal when smashing Watford last weekend. Leeds will probably put up a bit more of a fight, but ultimately, soemthing defensively is most likely to let them down.

No Confidence in Manchester City

August 21, 2011
By

Why is it I see what i think is a decent 4/5 about Manchester City to go to Bolton today and win, and then cant press the button? Certainly i know I am not having a bet in the match now, any hesitation and that’s it for me, I will not play. But for a team I first thought would be the only one to get near to Manchester united this season, i should have more confidence. Manchester United will win the Premier League, I am very very confident of that an as such have a fairly good investment at 6/4 for the outcome. Behind them, I have City. Or, do I? If i did, or at least really thought I did with any level of confidence, surely i would be pressing the button that bets they will beat Bolton at the Reebok. Certainly, if I am not sure...

Npower Championship remains as mad as a Box of Frogs

Southampton and Derby retain 100% records. Reading lose at home again. Crystal Palace win away and Peterborough put 7 (seven) past Ipswich!! Just another regular predictable weekend in the Npower Championship then! This division is as mad as it gets so far. No one would have predicted the top four position in the division at this stage of the season would be occupied by two teams promoted from League One just last season, a Derby side who were just about the most inconsistent last season and have spent next to nothing in the summer, and finally, a Crystal Palace side that only just escaped relegation in May. Trying to predict whats happening at the top is an impossibility. The best place to be looking for bets now in this division is with teams toward the bottom. Coventry and Doncaster were certainly forecast to struggle this season, and Watford too,...
